…and on the 8th day, micro fiction was published on some dude's blog.

Mahogany National Forest

The car pulled up to the booth at the park’s entrance.

As the driver lowered his window, Joel slid the booth’s screen open to greet the visitors.

“Good morning, folks,” he said as he collected their entry fee. He offered them a map. “Do you know where you’re going to?”

“Yeah,” the driver said, declining the map, then added, “But I don’t like the things that life is showing me,” and pulled away.

Joel didn’t get the joke until he was sitting at lunch two hours later. He started laughing out loud.

Unfortunately, this was right in the middle of a colleague’s story about how he’d once witnessed a camper getting mauled by a bear.

The other rangers didn’t speak to Joel for a while after that.

  1. Loved this little vignette, a tiny glimpse into Joel’s life –and it made me laugh–thank you!
